Worried
I'm so worried that I won't be able to find a job once I graduate. My classes end on August 13th and I haven't really applied for any jobs yet, though I should be probably. What worries me most is that there seems to be few jobs listed in the area I live so I will be apply to public, academic and special libraries that haven't solicited it.
Most of the jobs I have seen listed are in Toronto, the United States and oddly enough, out in the Prairies. No offense to any of those places, but I don't want to move that far. I live near London, Ontario and I want to stay in this area. I love it here and my family is here as well. If that limits my job opportunities, what can I do about it?
So, my question is this for my fellow other librarians or soon to be's: are any of you worried/paranoid about not finding a job like me?

Um yeah... always worried about finding a job. But I think because of the situation you are in, wanting to stay in the same area and being close to your family, that is limiting your opportunities. However, I don't think that will be too big of a hindrance. You're a good student. Can any of your profs recommend a position to apply for? How far is ONtario in relation to other libraries that you might be able to apply for?
Plus, you've got your volunteering which I think will put you in a good position if something opens up at those libraries. Or, you could perhaps talk to your supervisor about finding a more permanent position at the library.
I think it seems limited but that there are actually more opportunities awaiting you than you think, so don't worry too hard yet Alie.
Thanks for the encouragement, Sarah. That's what I hope will happen, that something will open up in the area where I live. I'm going to apply to all of those places anyway I think.
Don't worry about finding a job for yourself. There are TONS of jobs in the US from what I'm seeing! <3
I think you'll probably be fine- you may have to take a lower position at first, but promotion from within (at least from what I've seen) is big in the library world, it seems.
If you want to get away from Nebraska, you'll have no problems if you want to stay within the US. There are so many job postings all over the US that you will be sure to get a job at one of them!
